Nucleus

Function: The nucleus is the control center of the cell. It controls multiple cellular processes simultaneously. It also contains important information such as deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA. Plants are eukaryotic cells which mean that they are organized. They have a definite nucleus cell and definite organelles. The nucleus is a large organelle and is the most outstanding feature of any and every cell.
Structure: A nucleus is surrounded by a double membrane known as the nuclear envelope. The nuclear envelope has pores that only allow certain substances to pass in and out of the nucleus.  The nucleus consists of to important structures: chromosomes and nucleoli. Chromosomes are threadlike structures which contain DNA. DNA tells a cell how to perform processes and contains genetic information. The other structures, nucleoli, are small and round structures. The nucleoli help to make ribosomes in a cell (see the following link for more information on ribosomes.) Proteins help the nucleus to perform all of its important processes and are thus a key ingredient in cells.
